The Brewers, who have won just twice away from home this season, struggled to make an impression against fellow strugglers Stockport and had to settle for a point.
"Away from home with our record it's a decent point on an absolutely horrendous football pitch," he said.
"That was a shambles of a pitch, to be honest. How can you play football on it? In fairness to them they tried to play as well and it affected them just as much.
"Adam Legzdins was superb - he's been superb all season. He's kept us in games and he's had to do it once again.
"We've got to be able to perform on bad pitches. We had a game plan but at times we weren't carrying it out, but we kept a clean sheet."
