Burton moved a step closer to safety after a tense 0-0 draw with relegation rivals Stockport.
The Hatters dominated the early exchanges which culminated in a gilt-edged chance for Ryan Doble.
The striker was put away by Adam Griffin with just the goalkeeper to beat but lingered too long on the ball with the ensuing rebound falling for Griffin to produce a curling shot which Adam Legzdins just got his fingertips to.
As the half wore on Burton came more into the game and the lively Sam Winnall had a couple of opportunities which he failed to capitalise on.
After a quiet opening to the second period, the home side piled on the pressure after the hour mark, with Doble twice seeing fierce shots beaten out by Legzdins, while Matt Paterson shot inches wide before hitting the crossbar when clean through on the keeper.
Hard as they tried, County could not pierce a Brewers defence superbly marshalled by the vastly experienced Darren Moore.
